Nylon Buttons from the Archive

Nylon was the material that democratized the decorative button: light enough for blouses, tough enough for kids' clothes, and mouldable into any shape or colour. The archive's nylon sets cover shirt basics, dress colours and most of our novelty shapes.

Vintage nylon has proven itself — these sets have held their colour for decades and will survive any wash cycle you throw at them. Matched sets, exact millimetre sizing, honest colour photography.

Nylon Buttons — Questions, Answered

Is nylon durable for buttons?
Extremely — it resists cracking, chipping and fading better than most modern plastics, which is why 40-year-old nylon deadstock still looks new.
Can nylon buttons be machine washed and dried?
Yes to washing at any normal temperature; tumble dry is fine too. Nylon is the lowest-maintenance button material we stock.
Are nylon buttons lighter than metal?
Much — which matters on light fabrics where a metal button would drag. Blouses and drapey dresses want nylon.
Do they look cheap?
Vintage nylon has depth modern injection plastic lacks — moulded relief, layered colours and pearlescent effects. The photos speak for themselves.
