The World's Largest Vintage Clothing Button Archive
Sterling Buttons began as a button, buckle and ornament manufacturer in 1939 — and nine decades later, that legacy lives on as the world's largest curated archive of vintage clothing buttons online. Every pack in the catalog — metal crests, art deco shanks, pearl balls, novelty shapes — comes from decades of collected deadstock, sorted, matched and photographed one listing at a time. Sewists use them to finish garments no chain-store button could. Designers and costume makers mine the archive for pieces that stopped being made thirty years ago. Sizes are listed on every product, packs are matched, and orders ship fast across North America and worldwide.
The Button Finding Service
Can't Find It? We Probably Have It.
The website shows about 1,600 packs — the archive holds thousands more styles we haven't photographed yet. Matching buttons for a coat restoration, hunting a specific crest, or trying to complete a set from decades ago? Tell us what you're looking for and we'll go dig through the drawers for you.
Attach a photo if you have one — it makes the hunt much faster.
Good to Know
Questions, Answered
What sizes are your buttons?
Every listing shows the exact size in millimetres (and ligne, the tailor's measure, where useful). Most packs run 15–25 mm, and many include the same design in two or three sizes so you can run larger buttons down a front and smaller ones at the cuffs.
How many buttons come in a pack?
Most packs contain 6 or 12 matched buttons — the exact count is in every product title. Assortment lots run larger (250+ pieces). Because everything is vintage stock, packs are matched from the same original production run.
Are the buttons really vintage?
Yes — the archive is genuine deadstock, mostly from manufacturers and fashion-house suppliers of the 1970s–90s, collected over decades. That is also why nothing is restocked: when a pack sells out, that design is gone.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is free on orders over $65 to the USA, Canada and the UK, and calculated at checkout everywhere else. Every order ships with tracking. Use code BUTTONS20 for 20% off.
Can I use vintage buttons on modern garments?
Absolutely — they sew on like any button. Shank buttons suit coats and blazers (no visible thread), while 2-hole and 4-hole sew-throughs suit shirts, knits and machine sewing. Each collection page explains what its construction is best for.
Do you sell in bulk or wholesale?
Yes — larger assortment lots are listed in the shop, and we work with designers, costumers and resellers on bigger quantities. See our wholesale page or get in touch.

These are high quality and very pretty buttons. The shipping was surprisingly fast. Most importantly, they arrived in time for me to sew them to a handwoven poncho. Thanks so much for the fast shipping and great buttons!
Awesome buttons - love the vintage appeal and i put them on my 1910s morning coat.
Beautiful, exactly as described, quick shipment. Upcycled a vintage wool coat to the nines. Thank you!
