Antique Style Buttons from the Archive

Antique-finish buttons carry their age on the surface: darkened recesses, burnished highs, the look of metal that's lived. This collection gathers the archive's antique gold, antique silver and aged-brass sets — genuine vintage stock whose finishes were made this way in the factory, decades ago.

They're the natural choice for restoration work, historical costume, steampunk builds and any garment that wants gravitas. As with everything here, sets are matched, sized in millimetres, photographed up close, and finite — vintage antique-finish dies are among the fastest styles to sell out.

Antique Style Buttons — Questions, Answered

Are these actual antiques?
They're vintage deadstock — mostly 1970s–90s — manufactured with antique finishes. You get the aged look with unused, uniform condition across a full matched set.
Will the antique finish wear off?
Factory antique finishes are plated and lacquered — far more durable than DIY patinas. Normal wear and gentle washing won't strip them.
What's the difference between antique gold and brass?
Antique gold is a plated gold tone with darkened detail; brass is the solid yellow alloy that ages naturally. We stock both — compare this collection with the brass collection.
Good for historical costume?
Very — theatre and reenactment costumers are among our most regular buyers. If you need a period-specific look, email the Button Finding Service with reference images.
